The floating floor method is a wood floor installation process that enables you to install hard wood and bamboo flooring in a convenient, fast and cost efficient way. Installing a bamboo floating floor can actually prove to be quite an easy job and with the appropriate step by step guidelines even somebody new can soon get to grips with the task. Therefore, the proper knowledge and correct choice of an appropriate underlay will have a lot to say in the success of the finished floor.
First of all, we should make clear that not all bamboo flooring products can be floated. However, the general idea of this installation method is that the flooring material is installed over various types of underlay that will provide a cushioned feel and some degree of sound insulation – important if yo live in a flat. Considering that there are a dozen of underlay products, here are a small selection that are most widely used in installing floating floors.
The first commonly used underlay is your basic foam underlay. It is a synthetic product called open-celled polyethylene foam. Most of these underlays are thin and will compress easily. Common names include two in one or three in one underlay but check with your local flooring supplier if you need more information. The three in one underlay will provide a plastic film moisture barrier on one side for your bamboo floating floor as well as a foam cushioning on the other.
